It is that time of year again, holiday movies are in full swing!  One of my favorites is Elf.

Several students have communicated to me about the struggles of remote learning.  I see my son struggling with it as well.  I am empathetic to all of you and just want to remind you to keep plugging along.  Your hard work does not go unnoticed and will pay off in the end!  "Don't be a cotton headed ninny muggins!"  I am just an email away if you need me!  Have a great week everyone....I can't wait to see everyone next week!

2nd Marking Period Progress Reports

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving break!  As we continue with full remote instruction please be aware that progress reports are due to the main office this Friday, December 4th.  Progress reports will go home or will post in Genesis December 7th.  If students have not completed Health and/or Physical Education assignments, it will be reflected on their progress report.  Students are required by the State of New Jersey to complete a minimum of 150 minutes of Health and Physical Education per week!  Handing in assignments late does NOT meet the state requirements!  Please make every effort to turn in your work on time.  Have a great week everyone.  Make sure you get out from in front of the computer and get some exercise outside!

Back to all remote learning😞.  I was able to check in this morning with all my BLUE day students.  I will do the same tomorrow with GOLD students.  If you missed my visit, here is the replay....
This is a short week, you only have a PE assignment this week.  Please remember to submit your google form on Wednesday and TURN IN the assignment in google classroom so it is not marked as "missing".  Mid term progress reports are due to Mrs. Halloran on Friday, December 4th.  Please make sure you turn in any missing assignments you may have (for partial credit).  If a majority of your work is missing, I will send emails through Genesis stating this to your parents/guardians.  Next week you will have Health and PE assignments to complete.  All Health and PE assignments will continue to be posted and completed through google classroom.  If you have questions or are struggling with anything, please email me (rhart@oxfordcentral.org).  I will send you a google meet link and we can work through it and get the work completed.  I am here to help you!!!  And did I forget to mention......when your teachers tell you the school day is over- GET OUTSIDE FAR, FAR, AWAY from any technology.  Your eyes and brain need a break.....it is a beautiful day.  Get out and enjoy it!

I hope you all had a restful, long weekend!!!  This week is the start of our 6th week being back at school.  Please make sure you are turning in your assignments.  Credit is given for assignments that are turned in late.  Remember, even though we have in-person PE, assignments on-line are still required to meet the NJ guidelines for Health and PE.  Health is all on-line!  If you don't turn in health assignments we have no way to grade you.  First marking period ends October 23, 2020.

The weather is beginning to change.  We do not have the gym to teach in.  Check the weather report and be prepared for class OUTSIDE!!!   Extra layers, even a hat and gloves may be appropriate as we move through October into November.

As always, any questions or concerns please reach out to us vial email.  We can set up a virtual meeting if needed.  Have a great week OCS!

Happy Tuesday!

We are starting our 4th week of school.  The students are beginning to settle in and adjust to being back at school.  We are very fortunate to be able to get the kids outside for a brief amount of time for physical education the days they are in the building.  As we reminded the kids today, even though we are able to get them outside 2 days a week, this does not meet the state of NJ's requirement of 150 minutes of health and/or physical education per week.  This is why the students must also complete the assignments posted in google classroom.

Yesterday Mr. C and I sent out emails through Genesis to students who have not turned in  2 or more assignments for Health and PE.  If you haven't completed assignments, please get them turned in as soon as possible.  Teachers must turn in mid-term progress reports Friday morning.  If students have not turned in 2 or more assignments, their progress report will have an NI as their grade.  Please make sure you are completing your assignments on time.  If you have any questions, please contact us.  Thanks!

Start With Hello...

This week for our health classes the entire school will be working with a program called, Start With Hello.

The Start With Hello program brings attention to the growing epidemic of loneliness and social isolation—which often leads to bullying, violence, and depression—and teaches young people how to create a culture of inclusion and connectedness.

The students will learn how to do this using three steps- See Someone Along, Reach Out And Help, and Start With Hello.

The program has become interactive for use at home due to the current pandemic.  Students will be provided with a unique log in code when we see them in PE class this week.  For our all remote learners, we will send you an email with your log in and further instructions.

Welcome Back OCS!!!

Bitmoji Image

I am so happy to be back to school!  The 2020 school year marks the start of my 24th year teaching physical education and health.  Twenty four years ago I was full of emotions- nervous, happy, stressed, a little scared, anxious and excited.  Ironically, I am experiencing all those emotions again this year!   This year is going to be a learning experience for all of us.  Please know that Mr. C and I have worked very hard to get our student schedules completed and our google classrooms all set up.  We will continue to work hard in these challenging times.  There will be bumps in the road along the way, but all we ask is that you work hard and give us your best efforts.  We will get through this together!!!

One big change this year is that we do not have the gym to teach our physical education classes in.  We will be outside daily either on the field out back or on the fenced blacktop area on the Church Street side of the building.  Please be prepared to go outside in comfortable clothing, sneakers, and your mask on your PE days.  Locker rooms are not available for our use.  On rainy or inclement weather days, we will utilize a space indoors to conduct our activities.  For our virtual learners, PE activities/assignments will be posted in google classroom as we do not have the capabilities to live stream outside.  These assignments, along with all health assignments will be posted in your grade level google classroom on Monday's.  If you have not received your google classroom invite, don't panic.  In person students, Mr. C and I will walk classes through that when we see them next week.  All virtual students should have received an invite to the classroom.  If you have not, please email Mr. C (rcauston@oxfordcentral.org) or Mrs. Hart (rhart@oxfordcentral.org) to let us know and we will provide you with the classroom code.

Since Mr. C and I see all of the students in the building for PE and Health as do Mrs. Nemeth, Mrs. Padilla and Mrs. Firling, we had to get a little creative in working along with them to provide daily office hours from 2-3 pm for 265 students.  Mr. C and I will be available Mondays TBD (still a work in progress), Tuesdays from 2-2:30 for 1st graders and 2:30-3pm for 2nd graders.  Wednesdays 2-2:30 for 3rd graders and 2:30-3 for 4th grade.  Thursday 2-2:30 for 5th graders and 2:30-3 for 6th graders.  Fridays 2-2:30 for 7th graders and 2:30-3 for 8th graders.

Office hours will be a great way for Mr. C and I to check in with students, discuss the weeks assignments, answer any questions, and provide time for our virtual and in person learners to meet up and have some time together.  Please keep in mind the reminders we have posted below for when we are meeting virtually.  A big shout out to MRS. WITT and MRS. PAOLA for the image below!!!  Thanks Mrs. Witt and Mrs. Paola!!!

School starts September 8th.  Enjoy these last few days of summer.  Looking forward to a great school year!  As always, if you should have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Mr. C or myself.
